History
Once a thriving railroad yard with roots tracing back to before the Civil War, the Gulch was transformed in the early 2000s into a vibrant, mixed-use community. This LEED-ND certified neighborhood now stands as a symbol of modern urban development.
After a period of decline following World War II, the Gulch remained largely underdeveloped for nearly 50 years. Its resurgence began when the Turner family took ownership of the land in the early 2000s. Through strategic partnerships and innovative planning, MarketStreet Enterprises and other development firms have been instrumental in shaping the dynamic neighborhood into the trendy, ever-evolving area it is today.
The South's FIRST LEED Certification for Neighborhood Development
The Gulch was the first neighborhood in the South to earn the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) designation.
Gulch Business Improvement District (GBID)
The business improvement district covers all 91 acres of the Gulch to provide services maintaining its reputation as a clean, safe, active and attractive urban neighborhood.
